Job Description
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) National Center for Photovoltaics (NCPV) has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher. The researcher will join a team of researchers in NREL’s PV Reliability Group working on Circular Economy for Photovoltaics, (www.nrel.gov/analysis ) who perform modeling and analysis around the sustainability, economics and technical viability of solar PV and other renewable energy technologies. The successful candidate will lead the technical aspects of implementing a connection between the current open-source platform PV ICE and an open-source lifecycle assessment modeling framework for closed-loop various circular pathways in Photovoltaics. The project will result in journal publications and conference proceeding of the framework and results from the project.
Specific Research Tasks Include
- Development of an open-framework for lifecycle assessment interfacing open-source programming tools (PV_ICE, Brightways) in python
- Complete data collection and prioritization based on provided parameters or self-identified data needs; integrate data into modeling efforts.
- Develop manuscripts, write technical reports, present findings at conferences

Basic Qualifications
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
* Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
Additional Required Qualifications
- Excellent analytical skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing computer-based models and/or simulations from scratch, and using said models and/or simulations in analysis tasks
- Degrees/backgrounds of particular interest: engineering, environmental sciences, data science, computer science, and statistics.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Photovoltaic devices, components, systems, manufacturing and/or supply chains.
Knowledge of current approaches and dynamic material flow and LCA approaches and sustainability best practices
Experience with collaborative development of sustainable, well-documented software and with version control systems (e.g. git).
Programming experience in Python.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Job Profile: Postdoctoral Researcher / Annual Salary Range: $71,300 - $117,600
NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
